Microsoft has released a new Insiders build to its fast ring of testers which updates the Task Manager to add graphics card tracking capabilities. It keeps an eye on your GPU usage, your video memory usage and graphs it all out for you, making it easier than ever to understand.
Typically if you want to look at how hard your GPU is working you have one of two options. The first, is to listen out for the fan screaming away because it's all getting far too hot. The second, is to download a tool like Furmark or GPUZ and use them to tell you that it's working pretty damn hard, but there may be a few more percent that could be squeezed out of it.
Microsoft's new Task Manager is looking to make the latter option easier, by ditching the need for third party support altogether.
If you happen to be part of the Insider's fast ring, you can now download a new build which will give you full access to the revamped task manager. The performance tab now displays GPU performance for however many graphics cards you have, in percentage and graph form and even lets you know how up to date your drivers are.
Since its original unveiling, Microsoft has made a new addition to the revamped task manager too. In Build 16226, users can find a breakdown of the GPU usage per process on the processes tab, rather than the details tab. That should make it easier to track which application is chewing up all your GPU power - specifically handy if a piece of malware is nabbing all your GPU cycles for mining purposes.
