Tencent's new Battle Royale game Europa looks like Just Cause

Tencent, the parent company of many of the world's biggest gaming companies -- Riot included -- has a new game in the works that cashes in on the recent trend of battle royale games and the super success of titles like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. This one shares a lot of similarities with other titles in the genre, but ups the ante with some Just Cause-like aesthetics, hefty explosions, a variety of vehicles and destructible environments.

This might seem like an odd move for Tencent, considering it now holds the license to publish Battlegrounds in China, but since there has been talk of banning the game there, perhaps Tencent is merely covering all of its bases.

Whatever the reasoning though, Europa is coming and looks to be in a relatively complete state. Players will be able to utilize paragliders to get around and pick their starting spot, from where they'll scavenge guns, clothing and armor as in other battle royale games. The ability to shoot up and blow up the various environments though is a fun addition which could make it much harder for campers to use their favorite tactics.

Shooting out lights opens up some interesting gameplay potential for indoor locations and night time too.

There's an exciting variety of vehicles in the game, with this trailer showing both armored cars and heavily armed boats -- and there's enough of them to make vehicle convoys if you want.

No details have emerged on when the game will become available or even testable by players, but considering the advanced state of the game, we'd be surprised if it didn't start to open up before the end of the year.
