THQ: New Nintendo Technology Makes 3DS Un-Piratable

Nintendo DS and DSLite are perhaps the most pirated consoles in recent times, but it seems that their 3DS successor might not share the same fate.

Or at least that's what THQ's executive VP of global publishing Ian Curran believes.

"What excites me even more [than 3DS games] is that there's technology built in that device to really combat piracy," Curran said before noting that the rampant piracy in DS market was the main reason why THQ had to reduce the number of titles they released for the handheld, and that this will change with the 3DS if it succeeded in hindering piracy.

"I actually asked Nintendo to explain the technology and they said it's very difficult to do so because it's so sophisticated," he concluded. "They combated the piracy on Dsi, which they don't believe is cracked yet - but they know they've been hurt across the world and they believe the 3DS has got technology that can stop that."
