The High Elves, Dark Elves and Lustrian Lizardmen are making their way into the Warhammer universe once again, but this time on PCs as part of Creative Assembly's Total War: Warhammer 2, announced this weekend with an exciting new cinematic trailer.
Although we didn't get a look at any gameplay in this release, we did get to see a number of new races and some interesting mechanical possibilities, which suggests that although this will be a new game, it will act as more of an expansion of the first. An evolution, rather than a revolution.
Races we can expect to show up include the obvious High Elves, Dark Elves and Lizardmen, though there was a suggestion at the end that the Skaven rat men could make an appearance too.
The setting and map will obviously change, with new options for attacking the Lustrian jungles of the Old World. Rather excitingly, that could open up the potential for boat based battles and travel, since the Lizardmen homeland is far from the continent that the first game saw Chaos, Orcs, Men and the Undead battling over.
Units we can expect to be part of the new release include High Elf spearman and crossbows, as well as powerful wizards, witch elves and heavily armored Dark Elf heroes and more crucially, Carnosaurs and Slann for the lizardmen. There should be many more besides though, so we'll be keeping our eyes peeled as we edge towards the 2017 release of this game.
