Total War: Warhammer hands on footage shows Dwarves dominating

Total War: Warhammer is a game that is beginning to hit the expo circuit, but still has much development to go and isn't expected to arrive until next year. However it is starting to look rather polished with Creative Assembly keen to show off what it looks like in action.

After inviting a number of journalists to have a go with it first hand, publisher Sega has also released a new bit of footage from the game which shows the Dwarves and the Orc and Goblin hordes clashing underground. That's a new setting for Total War, but not for Warhammer, as Dark Omen fans will attest too.

The battle features hardened Dwarven warriors, giants, trolls, organ cannons and even the hilarious gyrocopters, who are able to swoop in and do a lot of damage late game.

Breakdowns from those who had a play mention the chaotic nature of the battles, with tight micro-management on a grand scale being the name of the game - this is definitely a Total War game, but it's more frantic and less rock-paper-scissors than traditional militaries.

Heroes are also mentioned, though there are some differences. Race leaders are formidable warriors who can be knocked out, causing morale damage to your forces. However there are also agent heroes, who can maul enemies in combat, but can die for real, so playing with them is a dangerous game.

Total War: Warhammer is set for release sometime in early 2016.
