The Trackmania series has always been a fantastic racing series. While it might not feature the nuances of some more sim-like racing games, it's pure, distilled arcade racing left no room for error on the track, making it great fun to play over and over in the hopes of shaving off just a few hundredths of a second more to claim that server record.
However as Nadeo tried to delve into other genres, like the FPS world with Shootmania and a re-released Trackmania without much but a visual upgrade, the franchise has fallen by the wayside, but now it may be looking to make a comeback. Trackmania Turbo is in development for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, with Nadeo once again at the helm.
However this time its being published by Ubisoft, which has a lot more industry clout than the game's previous hype men. Whether that alone is enough to win back fans of the series remains to be seen, but the new trailer looks suitably chaotic, and Nadeo hasn't made the bizarre move of splitting its racing fanbase across three separate games this time.
The new version involves helicopter drops, beach buggies, much more visual flair and some new locales to race in, which might be enough to spice up the experience.
The big question though, is whether the mappers will return. Trackmania's arguably greatest strength was its thousands of solid map choices, making it ever versatile. That may take some time to happen with the new version of the game.
Trackmania Turbo is set for release on November 27.
