This weekend marked the first public outing of Turtle Rock's Evolve, where the Left 4 Dead developer opened up its monster hunting title to the world to stress test servers and get some feedback on balance and map layout as well as bug testing. Unfortunately though, loaded servers and a problem with the recently released 2.0 update for the PS4's dashboard meant that nobody could get on, prompting Turtle Rock to delay the platform's availability until today.
Of course today was supposed to mark the end of the Alpha period, but Turtle Rock has now extended it by two days, to give PS4 players a chance to hunt and be hunted in turn, and to thank PC and Xbox One players for taking part.
"Evolve #BigAlpha is now available on PlayStation 4. We're extending testing for ALL to Nov. 4, 12PM PT (8PM UTC)," reads the Tweet from Turtle Rock. It followed on from a number of messages about ongoing issues with the PS4 platform, as well as problems with Xbox One and PC matchmaking.
Indeed the weekend was hardly a smooth one for Evolve gaming, as trying to find a game with a party proved almost impossible for everyone.
If you have had trouble or plan to play tonight, one tip I can offer is to search for a game by yourself, with no preference for role and then when you find a game, change your preferences to what you want and then invite your friends. It will be hard to get a game for 4 of you that way, but its the quickest way to get a few of you in a game.
Did any of you get a few games of Evolve in this weekend? I had a lot of fun and found it equally possible to win with the monster or hunters, as long as the team was coordinated.
How did you fare?
