Game streaming service provider Twitch announced its plans to become a videogame reseller by allowing game and in-game content to be sold while live streaming.
Later this spring, Twitch will add a purple "buy now" button under some streams. When you click on the purple button, you will be able to buy the game currently being streamed directly from Twitch or from existing publisher-operated services like U-Play.
According to Twitch, developers will get 70% of sales revenue and the streamer will get 5%. Obviously, this would put the credibility of streamers to the test as they would have a vested interest in portraying the games they are streaming in the best way possible in order to increase sales. At its core, we believe that this move might well turn - some - streamers to advertisers.
Apparently, this conflict of interest isn't bothering anybody as Twitch has always secured support from big names such as Ubisoft, Hi-Rez Studios, and Telltale Games.
