For Honor was no way near the success story that Ubisoft hoped it would be, with player counts on the PC falling to disastrously low levels soon after launch and averaging around 2,000 concurrent players in early 2018. However, according to Ubisoft, those numbers don't reflect the popularity of the game on other platforms, claiming in a recent financial report that as many as a million people play the game every single month.
In total, Ubisoft said that more than seven million players have purchased the game throughout its life. With a million active monthly players, it's also ended up as the fifth most-played game on game-streaming site Twitch as well.
As PCGamesN points out, Ubisoft's For Honor has drawn a lot of comparisons with another of its multiplayer titles, Rainbow Six Siege. Although that game didn't exactly blow the doors off the gaming world when it debuted, it went on to have tremendous success, with Ubisoft now claiming as many as 2.5 million daily players for the assault and defence game.
It is no doubt hoping that similar numbers can be achieved with For Honor long term, especially with the introduction of dedicated servers -- a much-requested feature that should all but remove lag issues and even out the abilities of the faster and slower characters that are currently available to players.
Other news from the earnings report includes Assassin's Creed Origins becoming the third best seller for Ubisoft in 2017, and showed that the additional time taken to craft it made sure it was much better received than previous entries in the series.
Sales totalled 725 million euros in the third-quarter of last year, of which digital sales were a much greater component. That side of the business saw a 75 percent increase over the year, representing 56.3 percent of total sales.
