Ubisoft chief Yves Guillemot believes that virtual reality will be more successful than the original Wii and that Ubisoft is poised to be a VR leader.
"What's very interesting about VR is that you have accessibility; a lot more accessbility than you have with a pad," he told the shareholders in an earnings report call. "Because just by moving your head...you can interact with the world you're in. So a lot more people can come to this industry, like with the Wii, or like the touchscreen, like we saw with Apple."
Ubisoft is known for its open world games such as Assassin' Creed and Far Cry. Guillemot believes that their experience with building such games will give them a competitive edge when it comes to developing VR games.
"We feel the people that create worlds will be the winners of the VR Industry for sure," he argued. "The fact that we create worlds is a big plus, because when they're created you can have a [VR] experience that is adapted to different types of customers. So for example, if you go into the world of Assassin's, you will be able to walk around and visit, or you will be able to have small elements to follow."
Ubisoft didn't announce any virtual reality games.
