Remember Five Night's at Freddy's? The streamer's darling for a good couple of years, the developer behind it was most well known for pumping out new games in the formula every few months and they went down pretty well despite the basic premise. They were creepy, jump-scarey, and frantic, and that made them great fodder for YouTube game streamers and in turn, a popular option for general gamers too. The developer, Scott Cawthon made a mint on it, and he's not quite done with the formula yet.
Ultimate Custom Night is the latest entry in the series and it takes things in a little more of a player-driven direction. Entirely free to anyone who wants it, the ultimate "FNAF mashup" puts you in an office like in previous entries in the series, but where it's different is that you control which animatronics want to hunt you down. You can add up to 50 characters from previous games into this one, setting each one's difficulty yourself to control how hard each level will be to beat.
Indeed, at the top difficulty level of all 50 characters all at 20 difficulties, most people can't last longer than a few seconds. That challenge, the lack of any cost for the game's "purchase," and the nostalgia of playing with so many classic characters, has seen the game rack up hundreds of positive reviews in its first few days on Steam.
It's not a big game, or a complicated game, but it's free and there's plenty to do if you fancy trying all sorts of combinations of characters. If you're a fan of FNAF, you'll probably love the free-form nature of this one and streamers once again, appear to be jumping on it. It's going to be a hit.
