Unity, the makers of the Unity Engine, one of the world's most popular development choices right now for game makers due to its versatility and cross platform support, has come out to address the rumours that it was up for sale.
In short, it's not.
Current CTO at Unity, Joachim Ante took to the official forums to deny the claims, stating unequivocally that there is "no plan to sell Unity."
"We always wanted to make a game engine that is accessible to everyone - to give customers an equal chance to develop great games and compete with larger players," he said, waxing a little lyrically about the company he helped found.
"In other words," he explained, they wanted to "democratise game development."
"The role we now have in the gaming industry has been noticed by other companies. And today we have partnerships and collaborations with many of them. And these partnerships have enabled us to make it even better for you guys. For example offering you access to even more platforms in Unity at no extra cost. Sometimes when we talk to our partners, discussions turn to talk of acquisition."
However, even though there might sometimes be discussion of the idea, it's never been on the table he said.
