Adamant on repeating it most fatal mistakes, EA revealed that the upcoming Need For Speed reboot (simply named "Need For Speed") will require persistent internet connection even for single player campaign.
The revelation came through the game's official Twitter account, which claimed that this would enhance the game experience.
@DeanRheims NFS will require an online connection, but the benefits are nice. More variety and a more rewarding experience with friends.

Incidentally, this excuse was used to justify the same requirement in Sim City 4. Long story short, customers didn't buy it, the game flopped and EA scrambled to remove the online requirements a few months after launch but – in the end – Maxis studio had to shut down in the aftermath.
EA is expected to share more info regarding the upcoming Need For Speed reboot during E3. In the meanwhile, rumors have it that it will be released on November 3rd, 2015.
