It's no secret that Nintendo had a lot of problems with the release of the Wii U. It struggled to gain traction and attention and although it's had some strong releases in the last year or so, its library never quite drew enough attention away from Microsoft and Sony's latest generation of systems to garner it much more than a modest following.
That's why a lot of attention has focused on Nintendo's next console, which was detailed in the barest of terms earlier this year, but wasn't expected to be unveiled until some time in 2016. Now though we're getting word that mass production of the rumored Nintendo NX, will begin as early as April next year, with Nintendo itself looking to shift upwards of 20 million consoles in that same year.
That would be rather optimistic, considering the Nintendo Wii U has barely been able to sell upwards of 10 million units over the last three years.
Perhaps then the Upstream seller prediction of 10 million units sold in 2016 is more accurate. If true, that would put it on even pegging with the regular sales of the Xbox One and PS4, therefore making Nintendo a little more relevant in this console generation.
However until we know more about what the NX is like, we are taking stabs in the dark. The NX is rumored to be a cross between a portable console and a home system, perhaps expanding on the current generation Wii U gamepad's remote play feature through better or more remote streaming.
What do you think the NX will be like?
