Back in the year 2000, US intelligence and customs officials announced that Saddam Hussein bought 4000 Playstation 2 units in order to use them in a "sophisticated missile-guidance system". And now, almost eight years later, it seems that the American army may be trying the same thing with the next generation of Sony's console.
A posting on the Federal Business Opportunities website revealed that the American Air Force is looking for a vendor to supply 300 40GB Playstation 3 consoles.
"The Air Force Research Laboratory is conducting a technology assessment of certain cell processors", said the official listing. "The processors in the Sony PlayStation 3 are the only brand on the market that utilizes the specific cell processor characteristics needed for this program at an acceptable cost."
