Valve updates Steam curators to make them relevant again

Have you ever made much use of Steam's curators features? No? Then you aren't alone and Valve knows it. The feature that was once designed to help gamers find games that their favorite streamers like and make it easier to collect games together under the banners of recommended by people who know what they're doing, has largely been a failure.

But that's not necessarily going to be the case forever, as Valve has now announced its plans to launch a revamped curators mode with some big changes. Expected to debut within the next few weeks and rolled out the world over before long, Valve is adding a lot of extras to the curator program.

For starters, curators will be able to embed videos in their pages, make lists of games they've reviewed and list them by categories and by favorites, and customize the layout of their pages to make them look a little different from everyone else's (thanks Kotaku).

To help keep curators interested in building their pages over time and not simply setting and forgetting the game lists, Valve is also looking to introduce graphs and other tracking systems to the curator back end. That way curators will be able to see how their reviews impacted gamers opinions of certain titles and whether that lead to direct sales of any particular games.

Another aspect will involve Valve looking to make curators more visible and relevant across the store. Regular users will soon see more indications of curators and what they thought of certain games, including additional tags and genre pages.

These changes are set to appear in the coming weeks. Do you think they sound beneficial to the platform? Or like many, do you not really care about curator approved content?
