A Reddit thread about an upcoming racing event organized by Gabe Newel to raise money for the Seattle Children's Hospital quickly turned into a discussion of Steam OS and Valve's intentions for its future.
When asked why Valve decided to create its own proprietary operating system, Newel was adamant that this couldn't be further from the truth.
" What part is proprietary? We're trying to make it as open as possible," he asserted. "If EA wants to put Origin on it, that would be fine, etc... (trying to pick an example of something that people think we would prohibit)."
Gabe Newel promised to host an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit if the Children's Hospital donations reached $500,000.
