Valve has been quite adamant that although it has been working on virtual reality hardware, it doesn't plan to release a commercial product and instead wants to just help prop up the industry. Although pretty altruistic, it is with selfish interest in mind too, as it will allow it to help take the PC gaming industry to a whole new level, as well as not cannibalising already existing VR companies like Oculus.
Still, it clearly wants the public to at least know it's been making some pretty cool stuff, as at the Games Developer Conference in March, it will let attendees have a try of its latest SteamVR hardware - that which has impressed no end of game developers over the past year.
"With the introduction of SteamVR hardware, Valve is actively seeking VR content creators. Are you a developer or publisher interested in experiencing the new SteamVR hardware? We’ll be giving scheduled VR demos during the week of GDC, March 4th-6th, 2015, at Moscone Center in San Francisco," a Valve spokesperson said.
The fact that Valve is currently looking for VR developers is also pretty exciting. Oculus VR itself has an in-house game development studio and 360 degree movie production department. If Valve is also looking into its own VR development, that could be very interesting indeed.
Cue Half Life VR speculation.
