Valve is working on a new feature that'll allow SteamVR users to play their existing games library in virtual reality.
Valve is coy on details but external sources revealed that the system won't magically "transform" conventional 3D games in virtual reality ones. Instead, SteamVR Desktop Theatre Mode just allows gamers to play their games inside a virtual environment such as a home cinema with a huge screen. This might feel like a letdown, but it is actually the only practical way to play existing games using a virtual reality headset without a TV screen.
SteamVR Desktop Theatre Mode will support Valve's Steam VR and "other" virtual reality headsets. The feature is still in early beta, but Valve promised to showcase it at this week's GDC conference in San Francisco.
