If you've got a few million spare and always wanted to own your own video-game developer, now isn't a bad time to be in the market, as Funcom, the company behind such titles as Age of Conan, The Secret World and the recent somewhat-disappointment, Lego Minifigures Online, is now up for sale with problematic finances and dried up investment being blamed on the tough times it's faced recently.
As VG247 points out, Funcom previously shut up shop in various territories around the world, including Beijing and Montreal to attempt to claw its way back to profitability. But it still needed to borrow a purported $1.6 million to finish Lego Minifigures and its sales haven't been able to stem that outpouring of cash.
Now the developer has been appointed to an investment back which will look into various potential futures for the company, one of which is sale.
It's not clear at this time how much would be needed to pick up Funcom, but it would likely be a lot less than it would have been a few years ago had you wanted to do the same thing.
I never played the Secret World or Age of Conan, but they were both loved in their own ways, even if there early days were a bit problematic. Did you enjoy either of those games at some point?
