Ubisoft has shot down speculation that the Rainbow Six visit to Las Vegas would also appear on Wii and has made it clear that the game is currently being developed for X360 and PS3 only. The publisher however, has failed to comment on the existence of a Wii exclusive Rainbow Six title.
The rumors started when a leaked list suggested that Rainbow Six: Vegas was coming to Wii and were further fueled by an accidental update to the Ubi site which listed Wii as a supported platform for the game.
In order to clear things up the company has issued the following statement which should clear things up: Rainbow Six Vegas has been announced and is currently being developed for the Xbox 360 and Sony PS3 platforms, and is not in development for any other consoles at this time. The statement seems straight forward enough but the company confused the issue when it refused to comment when asked if an alternative Rainbow Six game is being developed for Wii.
The popularity of the Wii, inspired by its spectacular E3 showing and its tireless PR people, has caused a lot of rumors to surface and the latest ones involve the release date and the creation of a Far Cry game for the console.
We have already commented on recent analyst reports claiming that the Wii may launch as early as October or even September 2006 but Nintendo has revealed that it will disclose release information in September, making a launch on the same month an unlikely event but not eliminating the October date. Now an even more ridiculous suggestion has cropped up; a Nintendo fansite is reporting that according to Sports Illustrated for Kids, the console will launch on November 6. This, of course, falls into the same rumor-mongering category of stories as the recent deluge of Best Buy and Amazon fueled news such as today's Halo 3 release date gem (anything from 3/1/2007 to 11/30/2007).
The Far Cry story is another interesting take as another Nintendo fansite has discovered an image of what is clearly a Far Cry game on Amazon.ca. The image, it is claimed, is of Far Cry Nintendo Wii although the same story claims not to know what platform the game is for. Although it is quite possible that a Far Cry Wii game is in development, it is not likely that Amazon.ca would possess an exclusive image and not know exactly what it was.
There is a lesson here somewhere for most of you hungry for Nintendo Wii news, let's hope you get it and stay with MegaGames for the real news stories.
