After Vista's launch, the Windows Media Player team finally had the time to work on (and release) WMP plugin for firefox.
It's easy to get the new Firefox plug-in -- if you navigate to a Web page today that has the embedded WMP ActiveX control, Firefox will automatically grab the new plug-in for you to install and you will once again be able to enjoy your media content. Or you can follow the link in the Download tab.
Currently, the plugin is for 32-bit firefox only and won't work on the 64-bit version.
