CD Project Red is one of the darling developers of the PC world which not only releases great games, but runs the DRM free distribution platform GOG as well. It made a big splash when it announced earlier this year that when its next big title, The Witcher 3, was released, it would be followed up by a number of free DLC releases to say thank you to the player base for their support.
On top of that though, it is getting two large content pack expansions, which will need to be paid for and now we know a bit more about them.
The first one, Hearts of Stone, is set for release later this year and will give players an extra 10 hours or so of gameplay, that sees the main character head into No Man's Land, where he'll be completing a monster slaying contract for a mysterious 'Man of Glass'.
The second content pack, slated for a 2016 release, is called Bood and Wine and will add another 20+ hours to the game and will see our hero investigating an "ancient, bloody secret," in a part of the world which appears relatively untouched by the war that rages throughout the initial Witcher 3 single player experience.
Some have criticised the fact that you can buy these expansion packs already with an "expansion pass," for $25, though CD Projekt is perfectly happy if people don't buy it and doesn't want anyone to feel pressured into doing so.
"While we’re offering the Expansion Pass now, we want to make one thing clear: don’t buy it if you have any doubts. Wait for reviews or play The Witcher and see if you like it first. As always, it’s your call," said CDP co-founder Marcin Iwiński.
