For a long time, AAA experiences have been criticised for being too short. Single player campaigns that only last eight hours barely let players scratch the surface of their character and their abilities, before it's over and they're on to the next experience.
That won't be the case with Jonathan Blow's The Witness though, as he's promised the brightly colored puzzler will have over 100 hours of content to play with. That is of course, if you decide to complete everything though. 100 hours for 100 percent seems like a pretty fair trade.
However he was also quite adamant that very few people will achieve that coveted completionist status, as there's one puzzle in the game that almost no one will be able to figure out he said. Of course there are search engines, guides and walkthroughs, so it will probably be a higher percentage of players than he expects.
Beyond a lot of content though, The Witness is also undeniably pretty and Blow is particularly proud of that.
"It’s the best game that I know how to make right now," said Blow in the interview (via PCG). "It pushed my design skills to the limit, it pushed my organisational skills… it’s a very complicated game with lots of things in it, and they’re not independent things. They all reference each other and work with each other, so you can’t just work on one thing at a time. That’s what I set out to do, but it also makes it very challenging sometimes."
The Witness lands on PC and PS4 on Janaury 26.
