World of Tanks gets 'Rocket League' mode for soccer World Cup

In celebration of the soccer World Cup that is captivating most of the world at the moment, World of Tanks developer Wargames has announced a brand new mode for the mechanical World War II shooter inspired by Rocket League. Instead of blowing each other up, the new game mode will see you using your massive machine of war to try and punt the ball into a goal on a thematic pitch.

Called "Tank Football 2018" the game is a little different than your average Rocket League match. These tanks don't have boosts and the ability to fly like their rocket car counterparts, but they do have guns. That means they have the ability to shoot the ball from a distance, which changes the game's dynamic massively.

Matches are three versus three and last seven minutes or until three goals are scored. Extra time is also a possibility, with the golden goal rule -- first to score, wins.

The game mode offers unique configurations of tanks with special abilities to provide better attack and defence in the right situations. With different reload times, speeds, turning profiles and shot characteristics for each and different configurations of teams to try out new attack and defence styles.

If the mode doesn't sound fun enough in and of itself, you can also win rewards for the main game and even physical rewards like a shirt and football autographed by Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.
