Xbox Chief Admits Nintendo Has The Best First-Party Games

After decades of keeping their games exclusive to their consoles, Nintendo finally agreed to release a Super Mario game on iOS and Android. With Nintendo's shields finally down, is it possible for its games to make it to rival consoles. Xbox chief Phil Spencer sure hopes so.

"I'd love to see Mario on Xbox," he told AusGamers before admitting that Nintendo has the best first-party games in the industry.

"As someone who’s been in this industry and played games forever, I’ll still say it: Nintendo has the strongest first-party of anybody. They’re just fantastic and the memories that they have instilled in so many of us, who’ve played their games and had those delightful experiences, having those on Xbox would be great."

Spencer noted that Microsoft has already worked closely with Nintendo to bring Super Mario to Microsoft's Minecraft on Nintendo Wii U console. He described their work together on that project as a "great partnership" which he hopes would only grow stronger and might lead to "something else" down the road.

Nintendo is currently the underdog of the 3-dogs race of the current console generation. However, the company hopes to turn this around with the release of its console/handheld hybrid - the Nintendo Switch - in March 2017. It is hard to believe that the company will lend its valuable franchises to its competitors unless the Switch flops so bad, Nintendo decides to leave the hardware market for good.
