The remake/reboot/re-imagining of the original alien blasting, researching, base building title by a similar name, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, will be arriving on Apple's iOS as soon as June 20th - that's this Thursday if you don't have a calendar handy.
The game has been optimised for touch screen devices and will cost $19.99 on release day. Initially this is an iOS only release, with supporting devices including the iPhone 4S and 5, iPad mini, two and anything newer and the fifth generation iPod touch.
However, this isn't the full game in every respect, despite earlier press releases claiming so. This will only include the single player game and won't have any aspects of the multiplayer included in the original PC title. Never fear though, as it will be added in a later update, though it hasn't been made clear as to when, at this point.
At this stage there have been no announced plans for an Android port, so feel free to keep your fingers crossed if you're hoping to one day slay some aliens in turn based action on your non-ipad tablet or Android equipped smartphone.
So quite an expensive one for you iPhone users. Will you be picking it up? Seems like the kind of experience that would work well on an iPad but might be a bit too restrictive on a smartphone. What do you guys think?
