If being a nerd has taught us anything, it's that the future is going to be extremely dangerous. But it also taught us that the future would see our soldiers genetically modified AND fitted into giant armoured suits, not one or the other.
Because of this, XCOM Enemy Within is distinctly current-gen or at best, near-future in its take on how we would deal with an alien threat. According to the gruff voice over, we now know that the aliens are bringing some heavier fire power to bear, but we have a response: super soldiers, or normal soldiers... in a mech.
The trailer itself is titled, "War Machines," which is an apt name for something that shows both interpretations of what that could be - the soldiers themselves, or the hardware they strap themselves into. Though I would have said even super soldiers could do with a bit more body armour than the ones in this game.
XCOM Enemy Within will be released on November 12 2013, and will be priced at $29.99 for PCs and Macs and $49.99 on consoles as part of the Commander Edition, which includes the original XCOM Enemy Unknown, as well as the Elite Soldier and Slingshot add-ons.
