The sequel that everyone had given up hope for has been confirmed. Alien: Isolation, the big cult hit that apparently didn't sell very well, is finally getting a sequel. The news was broken on the official Alien: Isolation Twitter (X) account and shared by Creative Assembly, so it's about as legitimate as legitimate can get.

"It's been nothing short of incredible to witness your passion for the game over the years and see it reach so many players around the world. Your boundless enthusiasm, excitement, screams (!) and steely courage in the face of cinema's greatest killer, have been profoundly rewarding", said Al Hope, Alien Isolation's creative director in a statement. "Today, I'm delighted to confirm, on behalf of the team, that a sequel to ALIEN: ISOLATION is in early development. We look forward to sharing more details with you when we're ready."
As you can tell, details are sparse on the ground, to say the least. We expect the sequel will be in a similar vein to the first game, rather than as large a departure as the genre shift between the first Alien movie and action-oriented Aliens — but no-one can say for sure what will be done to advance the excellent formula of the first game.
It's safe to say that few people thought this day would come. The game came out ten years ago, which is incredible when you look at how well it's aged. While a big hit on YouTube reactions and with fans, the game didn't seem to sell particularly well, and as a result, expectations for a sequel were eventually shelved. However, this goes to show that there's always hope, especially with a franchise as storied and celebrated as Alien.
