During E3 2014, Oculus showcased a demo of Alien: Isolation controlled by Rift DK2 VR headset. The demo was one of the hottest items in the convention, but that didn't stop Sega from affirming that the final retail version won't ship with Rift support.
The publisher made good on its word but, fortunately enough, the development team disabled the feature without removing its code and now hackers have found a simple way to enable Oculus Rift support in Alien: Isolation.
The joint efforts of Oculus enthusiasts on Reddit uncovered the steps below to enable VR mode in Alien: Isolation. Be warned though, there is good reason why Sega opted to remove it: it is buggy as hell. The entire UI and in-game computer terminals are unusable, the cut scenes are nauseating as they were not designed with VR in mind and the game requires Oculus recalibration every half an hour or so.
That said, you can try it out for yourself by doing the following:
<Setting name="Stereo Mode">
<Quality name="Rift" precedence="4″/>
<Quality name="Off" precedence="4″/>
</Setting>
1. Set the Oculus to extended mode.
2. In the Oculus Configuration utility, pause the service.
3. Start the game, play and enjoy. When done, do step 5.
4. To play the game normally (revert it back to 2D), reactivate the service by opening the display mode and set it to "direct to rift" and voila.
5. To play the game normally (revert it back to 2D), reactivate the service by opening the display mode and set it to "Direct to Rift"
