A new and major war has been brewing in Eve Online for the past few weeks, with major alliances like Panfam and The Imperium gearing up for conflict with skirmishes on borders and in deserted regions as scouts and skirmishers tussle with one another before larger scale battles. But all of that may need to be put on hold as there's a new threat in the galaxy: Aliens.
But these aren't greys or black-exoskeleton xenomorphs, but humans from a distant time. The Triglavians are streaming through the Abyss and their forces are already engaged in major conflicts and sieges of three different parts of the galaxy.
The Triglavians are a relatively new threat to Eve's thousands of single-server players, having been first introduced just over a year ago as part of the Into The Abyss expansion. Not only are these ancient humans equipped with strong weaponry and ships, but their AI has been enhanced too, representing a major improvement over traditional NPCs. They're designed to react much more like real players, offering a significantly greater challenge to fend off than more typical AI forces.
To date, players have been able to attack the Triglavians in their home bases through player-spawned instances, but now the tables have turned and the group of aliens are fighting back. The invasion has begun with massive "World Ark" vessels bringing endless swarms of AI controlled ships into the player owned spaces of the galaxy, as per Kotaku.
Entering these newly Triglavian-invaded systems can be dangerous, with clouds of abyssal effect matter that change base ship statistics, and roving bands of Triglavian fighters which are surprisingly difficult to combat. If they aren't slowed though, these zones could expand and may require a concerted effort to see off.
The question is, can Eve players work together long enough to take down this new threat?
