Baldur's Gate 3 hits peak player count with over 120,000 players

We’re only a few days into 2025, but Baldur’s Gate 3 is already racking up some pretty impressive stats, with a player count of over 120,000 as of January 6th. It’s an impressive player count for the 2023 single-player cRPG as it enters its third year.

News in brief

  • Baldur’s Gate hit peak player count of 120,000 players on January 6th.
  • It also crept back into Steam’s top ten best-performing games.
  • The cRPG is currently number 19 in Steam’s top sellers.

The impressive player figures are up 10% from December 2024, and it isn’t the first increase the game has seen. December’s figures were up 3.5% from November, according to developer Larian Studios. In fact, player numbers are even higher now than when the title left early access in 2023.

Baldur’s Gate 3 looks set to continue climbing the ranks, with one final “major” update coming in the form of Patch 8 at some point in 2025. That promises to add cross-play, photo mode, and 12 new subclasses. Larian will undoubtedly continue patching and updating the game after this patch, even though it’s the last significant update the cRPG title will see.

In December, Baldur’s Gate 3 crept back into the top ten best-performing games on Steam and right now is number 19 in Steam’s top sellers, with 43,936 players online at the time of writing — and that’s on a weekday! Overall, the game ranks in 20th place in Steam’s most played games, just ahead of titles such as Elden Ring, Black Myth: Wukong, COD, and even Helldivers 2, which is approaching its one-year anniversary.

Who knows, perhaps the last patch will catapult the game to even greater player numbers — though it would currently need another 75,000 players to jump into the top ten most played games ahead of Palworld.
