As much as ARK: Survival Evolved is all about taming dinosaurs, riding them around and chomping on your fellow players, it does have some semblance of story to it and a lot of mysterious elements. What are the portals about? What time is it? Where are you?
Although most of these will remain mysterious for some time, the game is going to have some explanations given for its stranger elements in the form of a new Explorer Notes system, which will break down some of the questions players have.
Essentially you'll be able to find notes on what previous inhabitants of the island discovered, what their lives were like and in some cases how they met their grisly end. Since they may have discovered more than the players themselves though, their notes could contain valuable clues about what exactly is going on with the ARK.
"By studying their notes, learning through their experiences, and revealing the secrets they have discovered, you will be able to get closer to the heart of the mysteries surrounding the ARK," said the developers in an update.
It was also announced that no new dinosaurs would be debuted in the near future, as they are working on bringing the last few to the game before working on features and optimisations to improve the game for an official release. It's quite jam packed with dinosaurs now, as well as prehistoric and mythical creatures.
