If you were going to have anyone from the classic library of Nintendo classics build a level in Mario Maker, there are probably a number of people you would pick before the creator of Castlevania. However that's now how it would go if you were looking for the a fiendishly difficult, player punishing Mario level, as Koji Igarashi has built something quite different from the norm.
Right off the bat, players have to take on King Coopa before even making it past the first jump. Then there's a tonne of vertical enemies, horizontal moving platforms and flame jets trying to cook you from behind.
The level is nasty, but fortunately for those hoping to complete it not too long.
This isn't part of Nintendo publicity campaign however, but Polygon's look into the creation of classic Mario levels, using real video-game developers and mappers. It's interesting to see what they make versus those of us who don't have quite such map building pedigrees.
Have you guys had a play with Mario Maker yet? Did you make anything harder than this?
