Destiny's latest expansion, The Taken King, appears to have gone down very well with the player base and even managed to help draw in new players, as the game has gone from 20 million players just three months ago, to a full 25 million today.
Although this is far off industry giants like League of Legends, it does make Destiny one of the most popular games in the world right now and far eclipses records made by games like World of Warcraft, which even at its peak had but 13 million active players.
According to the numbers from Bungie, not only are there 25 million regular Destiny players now, but they're putting in an average of three hours per day, which is an impressive amount of playtime, but perhaps also shows the relative age of the gamers:
"Day-one downloads broke PlayStation records, day-one engagement saw the highest number of active players in Destiny’s history, daily player engagement is now well above 3 hours per day and the Destiny community has climbed to over 25 million registered players," said Activision of the The Taken King launch, via VG247.
Following the launch of the new expansion, which saw players taking on the vengeful Oryx, father of the previously destroyed Hive Prince Crota, Destiny has also become the most watched game on Twitch, which is quite an achievement in its own right and will no doubt have driven new players to purchase the game.
