Fallout 4 is back on top of sale charts in Europe thanks to TV show

Sales for Fallout 4, a game released in 2015 is back in the sales charts. Specifically in Europe, Fallout 4's physical and digital sales have exploded, jumping up 7,500% week on week.

News in brief

  • The popularity of the Fallout TV show has boosted sales for all recent Fallout games
  • Fallout 4 leads the pack, with Fallout 76, New Vegas, and Fallout 3 also in the top ten
  • It comes as a "next gen patch" is also due to hit Fallout 4, meaning there's never been a better chance to get into Fallout.

The sales data has been compiled from all major European countries, and includes both physical and digital sales. According to the data, Fallout 4 has exploded up the charts, and is sitting pretty at number one, eclipsing even Helldivers 2. Fallout 76, Fallout: New Vegas, and Fallout 3 have also benefited from the boost, and have landed at numbers eight, nine, and ten respectively.

It should come as no surprise as to what's caused this explosion in popularity; The Fallout TV show on Amazon Prime has turned out to be an enormous hit. Despite some early suspicions that it would be a dud, fan faith has been rewarded with a show that celebrates the best elements of Fallout and adds to the mythos in some surprising and illuminating ways. This new release, alongside some aggressive sales pricing on Steam and other platform stores, has brought a whole lot of new players to the franchise.

It's a nice turn of events for a franchise that could easily have been seen as flagging. The last mainline release in the series, Fallout 4, was released in November 2015, and is rapidly approaching its ninth birthday. The latest release, MMORPG Fallout 76, launched in October 2018, and was widely derided for its unfinished, unbroken, and generally unpolished state. The game has advanced since then, but was unlikely to regain the attention it had originally got on launch. That is, until now. Fallout New Vegas is the fan favorite of the recent releases, and despite a number of bugs, this Obsidian-created Fallout game is the game for those who love deep RPG elements.

It's always great to see a game franchise like Fallout increase in game players, and even if the popularity is short-lived, it will further the popularity of the Fallout franchise with the wider public.
