Although both the Xbox One and PS4 versions of Fallout 4 have been pretty well received by most that have tried them, there is one persistent issue which has frustrated all players, specifically those on the Microsoft platform: a strange stutter.
It seems to occur when loading new content areas or switching weapons, with Eurogamer discovering that it appears to be caused by the rather slow 5,400RPM HDD used as the consoles' storage platform. To find out if that issue could be fixed, it began hooking up various storage devices to the consoles via a USB dock and it found that much of it could indeed be solved with the use of a faster hard drive or better yet, an SSD.
Not only did the micro-stutter all but disappear when using faster drives, but load times were reduced too. Opting for a 7,200 RPM hard drive reduced load times on the Xbox One by about five seconds across the board, while an SSD took things down a further 10 seconds beyond that, almost halving initial load times.
The PS4 saw an even greater benefit, with huge drops in load times with the use of an SSD.
