When fans heard that Square Enix was finally listening to their cries and was making a remake of Final Fantasy VII, they were ecstatic. It's considered one of the best games ever made, with a story and setting that touched people's hearts, and a combat mechanic that had people grinding for hundreds of hours to beat the final bosses.
However nothing has been quite so straightforward since then. An announcement was made that the game would have its combat revamped for the remastering, possibly not even being turn based anymore and now we're hearing that the game might actually be released in episodes instead of as one full experience.
This announcement was made by Square at the recent PlayStation show where the first footage was shown off:
"Square Enix debuted a new trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, the full remake of the award-winning role-playing game, Final Fantasy 7. The new trailer features the first CG scenes as well as gameplay footage," the publisher said (via VG247).
"Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be told across a multi-part series, with each entry providing its own unique experience."
It's true indeed that there are many different segments to Final Fantasy VII. There's the start, where you're freedom fighters in a dangerous game of corporate espionage. There's the world trotting escape beyond that, a search to reimagine yourself on the trail of Sephiroth and then there's the whole plot with his and your past which you must discover.
But can this all work in separate short releases? Is this just a way to speed up the time to release something to the public?
What do you think?
