Halo 5 Multiplayer Makes Its Way To PC Through The Forge

Microsoft has made it clear that it won't bring existing Halo games to PC, so it was a pleasant surprise to find that the company is bringing a piece of Halo 5: Guardians to Windows 10.

Later this year, Microsoft will release "Forge - Halo 5: Guardians Edition" on Windows 10 for free.

The Forge is a map creation tool that allows Halo 5 players to create and modify the game's multiplayer maps and tweak their rules. Only the Forge will make it to Windows 10, so PC gamers won't be able to enjoy the game's subpar single player campaign. The Forge won't support matchmaking, but its users will be able to share and play their creations with other gamers in their friends list.

The Forge on Windows 10 will come with increased resolution in addition to mouse and keyboard support. Maps created through the PC version of the Forge can be published and played on Xbox One.

"Forge on the PC will finally give the mouse/keyboard editing precision the community has always been clamoring for. On top of that, an updated and optimized UI geared towards mouse interactions makes a lot of the inputs in Forge easier/faster than before," said Tom French, UGC Director, 343 Industries.

"Since we released Forge in Halo 5 we’ve seen so many amazing new things come from it – from weird mini-games we could have never anticipated to meticulously crafted maps that are even approaching the visual quality of internally built maps. The team has continued to wonder what we’d get if we could put Forge in the hands of as many people as possible, and making it free on Windows 10 literally gives the chance to anyone who wants to jump in and try their hands at building a cool new map for Halo 5. I’m excited to see what the future content from the community will bring!"
