Delays of large scale games aren't uncommon in contemporary development, as they are mammoth projects and it's easy to run over if just one element takes a little longer than usual. While they often aren't announced many months in advance, that's what's happened with Mirror's Edge Catalyst, which we're told has had its release pushed back from March 2016, to May the same year.
This isn't a massive delay, but it's one that will likely sadden those equally awaiting the sequel to one of the more innovative titles of the '00s.
The announcement was made by an EA spokesperson on the official blog, stating:
"Years ago, we set out an ambitious vision for Mirror’s Edge Catalyst," said Senior producer Sara Jansson. "Achieving that vision and delivering the best possible experience is equally inspiring and challenging. And it takes time.
"We set out to create a vast city to explore, full of stunning vistas, majestic skyscrapers, and mysterious tunnels. We’re building the most immersive action-adventure game with fluid movement and combat in first person. Mirror’s Edge Catalyst will be an all-new playground with a deeper and more engaging story – and we want to accomplish all these goals to the highest quality possible."
For that reason we're told the game just isn't going to be ready in time, hence the delay. The slated release date is now May 24th next year, so there is a bit more of a wait, but it should be worth it.
I'd rather wait much longer for a game to come out, than to buy it and find it's a broken mess.
