The upcoming Mortal Kombat remake is the latest entry in the long list of Australian banned games.
As usual, the game wasn't explicitly banned but it was refused classification by the Australian Classification Board since they have no Adult rating.
Describing the game's violence as "beyond strong", the board's report went on to explain why the 9th title in the Mortal Kombat series might be the one we've been waiting for: X-ray mode and - of course - the series' trademark fatalities.
The report notes that in X-ray mode internal injuries such as "skulls cracking, ribs breaking and, occasionally, organs being damaged" are shown in close-up, and that "the game includes over 60 fatalities which contain explicit depictions of dismemberment, decapitation, disembowelment and other brutal forms of slaughter."
