A large number of players have tried and failed to get refunds for the PS4 of No Man's Sky.
No Man's Sky has always been an ambitious title with its promises of grand adventures in a seemingly endless space. The debate of whether the game actually delivered on its promises is still raging with a growing number of players complaining that the game only offers repetitive gameplay with different coats of paint.
Sony's refund policy allows PlayStation 4 owners to get full refunds within 14 days but only if they never started downloading the game, let alone play it. In case you actually played the game, you have to justify your refund request and Sony is free to accept or reject it.
A growing number of players have reported that their refund requests have all been rejected.
People gave all reasons for their refund requests, from motion sickness to stuttering to crashes to misleading trailers and they all got rejected.
And even when refund requests were granted, they came with strings attached. People who got their refund requests granted were told that if the refund goes through, the player gets banned from buying and playing the game ever again. This is particularly problematic for No Man's Sky because the game is actually getting better with each update and it is likely that a large number of the problems to be fixed over time.
It is hard not to compare this situation to PC where Steam has a clear-cut policy of no-questions-asked refunds for games purchased within 14 days as long as they have been played for less than 2 hours.
When asked for clarification, Sony brushed the matter off as a miscommunication and issued a statement affirming that players who receive a refund will be able to re-purchase the game and play it normally.
