Oculus VR chief Brendan Iribe showcased the first commercial version of the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset and, for the first time, announced a partnership with Microsoft.
The Oculus Rift will launch before the end of March 2016. It will be bundled with an Xbox One gamepad and a wireless PC adapter for the controller. Apparently, this is meant to encourage people to play virtual reality Xbox One games using Windows 10 game streaming feature. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be possible to connect the Rift to Xbox One directly.
Call us a bunch of simpletons, but we don't really find it intuitive to have to run a game on Xbox One and stream it to PC just to play it using an Xbox One controller connected to the PC through an adapter. It is reasonable to believe that this is gobbled up workaround to have virtual reality games playable on Microsoft products by the time Sony's Project Morpheus hits the market in March 2016.
Oculus has partnered with a number of developers to bring ported and original virtual reality games to the Rift, including Insomniac's upcoming Rift-exclusive third-person adventure game Edge of Nowhere.
