Overwatch is Blizzard's next take on a competitive mashup of genres and popular titles, combining MOBA like objective based gameplay with a style much more akin to Team Fortress 2. It's currently running through its closed beta, which is letting a few lucky individuals try it out before the rest of us. While there may be an open beta period where a few more will get their chance to test it before release though, if you'd rather wait for the day when it's finished and good to go, you'll be waiting until the middle of next year to do so. June in-fact.
When Overwatch does debut, it looks like it will come with a total of 21 heroes fo play as, as well as five additional skins for some level of customisation.
This news comes from a listing on a British retailer's website (via PCG), which detailed the "origins" edition of the game. It may be that there are other editions of the game - that seems likely - in which case it may be that the game model allows for a freemium version, much like popular titles like League of Legends and DotA, where additional characters (in the case of LoL) and skins and other aesthetic changes are possible.
It also looks like Overwatch won't be a PC exclusive like we initially thought. Some datamining that's gone on has dug up references to both the Xbox One and PlayStation Network, which suggests Overwatch will be made available for those two major console platforms at some point too.
Are you excited for Overwatch? It seems to be going down well with early testers.
