Alongside Valve's introduction of paid-for-mods to the Skyrim workshop, one of the biggest gaming snafus of the year was Overkill Studios introducing micro-transactions for its long-time fan-favourite, Payday 2. It promised it never would and then it did, only exacerbating the problem following original complaints before an apology that went nowhere.
And now it's apologising again.
"The past few weeks have been some of the most challenging in the history of this community," producer Almir Listo wrote on the Steam forum. "Players have been angry with us, media have written about us en masse and our volunteer moderators went on strike.
"For all the distress we've caused the past few weeks, I'd just like to take the time and say that we're sorry. We've done a lot of things right in the past, but these past few weeks we screwed up. We need to get better at many things, and we will do our best to improve as soon as possible."
To help things moving forward, Overkill has met and chatted with moderators and members of the community to improve relationships and will be much more forthcoming with actions it takes moving forward. However, it has not pulled the micro-transactions and stat-boosting weapon skins which so angered players, so does this really go far enough?
As if knowing this, it announced new tournament heists and gameplay additions. Do you guys feel like it's dodging the issue here?
