Square Enix Witch demo's DX12 graphics blow everyone away

Every now and again we get a glimpse of what the graphics of the future will look like and it's always impressive. Two years ago it was Square Enix's other demo featuring the same female protagonist, in Agni's Philosophy. Here though, the Final Fantasy inspired character isn't taking part in anything quite so action packed. In-fact for the most part, she's clearly racked with sadness.

In this demo, shown off at Microsoft's Build 2015 conference, we see four high end Nvidia GPU's powering a pretty hefty system, but that's because even with DirectX12 behind the scenes, the demonstration is no pushover. It utilises over three million polygons in the character, with more than 50 shaders and 8k x 8k textures for everything.

That's right, while at the start of the demo it may look pre-rendered, it is actually running in real time, and won't be far removed from what games of the future will look like while we're actually playing them.

Of course almost no one has a PC capable of running such an experience at the moment, so we'll need to wait for a generation or two of GPUs down the line for graphics like these to become commonplace, but it's an exciting future that isn't too far away.
