Two-thirds of you need to hurry up and prepare for Elden Ring's DLC

Elden Ring's first and only DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, will release on June 20, a little over a week away. However, a majority of Elden Ring's Steam players aren't at all ready for the expansion to hit, as achievements show that only 37.8% of players have beaten the optional boss needed to access the new content.

News in brief

  • Less than 40% of Elden Ring players on Steam are ready for the DLC
  • The DLC is hidden away behind an optional boss
  • Shadow of the Erdtree promises a massive amount of content

Small spoilers for Elden Ring follow, namely the positioning of optional bosses, so keep that in mind if you're sensitive to such.

Elden Ring is a challenging game, so it's entirely fair if you play it and decide that just hitting the bosses required for progression is alright by you. After all, the optional bosses are just that — optional, and only really there for those people who really want to test themselves against more than just the storyline bosses. One of those bosses is Mohg, Lord of Blood. Found in Mohgwyn Palace, Mohg is a shardbearer and some players will have chosen to fight him to get the two shards needed to progress, but apparently a majority of players either chose not to, or simply didn't stumble across him. And that was fine — until now.

If you want to access the Shadow of the Erdtree content, available from June 20, then you're going to need to beat Mohg. He's found near Miquella's cocoon, through which you'll start the DLC, and in order to get to the cocoon you're going to have to go through Mohg. Therefore, if you're getting pumped to play more Elden Ring, it's probably in your best interest to get to Mohg early and drop the smackdown on him, so you can get into the DLC as soon as possible.

Is Shadow of the Erdtree going to be worth this extra effort? We won't know for sure until launch, of course, but at the very least it seems as if it'll be absolutely crammed full of new bosses, adventures, and areas to explore. While Shadow of the Erdtree is due to be the only Elden Ring DLC, it seems as if it'll be worth it.
