EA has decided to limit the total number of Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO digital and retail copies sold during its first days in market.
The decision was made to ensure smooth experience at launch, even if it costs them lost sales.
"We are limiting launch quantities of Star Wars: The Old Republic to ensure players have a smooth and high quality game experience and service at launch," an EA and BioWare representative confirmed.
"All versions of the game -- physical and digital -- are available for pre-order on a limited basis only. Once they are gone, they are gone," he added.
Needless to say, EA has plans to ramp up the game's servers capacity quickly if demand was high enough to force it into halting sales. The digital version of Star Wars: The Old Republic will be sold exclusively through the EA's newly launched Origin Store, making it easy for the company to halt and resume sales at a whim.
