With over 10 million copies sold, it should come as no surprise to learn that someone has bought a copy. However, surprised we are at the revelation that not one, but two copies of Baldur's Gate 3 have been purchased within the Holy See itself, Vatican City.
News in brief
- Larian studios have revealed two copies of Baldur's Gate 3 were purchased in Vatican City
- A further copy was wishlisted
- Baldur's Gate 3 is also getting a special PS5 Pro version
The news comes from Larian Studios' Director of Publishing, Michael Douse, who joked that the Pope may have wishlisted a copy for whenever he has a spare moment from being God's representative on the Earth. As above, so below, so we now also have to assume that The Almighty himself has strong opinions on Shadowheart, Astarion, and the other members of the loveable band of misfits that form the backbone of Baldur's Gate 3.
In reality, it's far more likely that a few members of the Papacy's staff have purchased copies of what is likely to be seen as a highly inappropriate game for such a holy place, but it's far more fun to assume a high-up member of the Catholic Church has been indulging. And of course, that could be the case, but we'll never really know.
It's also been revealed that the highly popular game will be getting an enhanced version for the PS5 Pro. While the game runs great on most hardware, the PS5 Pro version of Baldur's Gate 3 will run at a 4K resolution at 30 frames per second in the Quality mode, while those eager for more frames will be able to use the Performance mode to get a smooth 60 frames per second at 1440p or 2160p resolutions.
Baldur's Gate 3 remains one of the year's biggest releases, and will likely dominate player hours for many more years to come, with more and more content being discovered seemingly every other day.
