New Manor Lords maps "soon", but don't expect anything non-European

Manor Lords, the incredibly popular game where you build up a small settlement in a medieval-style world, will be getting new maps soon. This news comes directly from the Twitter (otherwise known as X) account of solo dev Greg Styczeń. He has also warned that fans shouldn't expect any new maps in the base game to move far away from the European-style of the game so far.

News in brief

  • Wildly popular Manor Lords is getting new maps "soon"
  • New maps aren't likely to venture outside of the game's European style
  • Game is built by one person, so patience is key

The tweet was accompanied by an image of the upcoming map, and it shows a mountainous (dare I say, vertiginous) space, which Styczeń says is loosely based on the real-life location of Lauterbrunnen, in Switzerland. While this is an excellent boon for Swiss tourism, it also means players will have to cope with a number of fresh issues on this new map.

It's not clear how many new maps will be released soon, with the tweet only containing the one image above. It's possible we could be getting more than one map in this next update, but it's certainly not been confirmed.

It's important not to expect the style of map to change too much in the immediate future, too. While Styczeń hasn't ruled out moving the game's scope outside of German-speaking European climates, he's said it definitely won't be happening in the base version of the game. However, he's open to the game exploring new areas in additional DLC or expansion packs. An Arabian-style trading focused manor in the desert, anyone?

Progress on this game has been slow, but Styczeń assures it's steady. He's an sort-of-solo dev, with other workers helping out with bug fixes and other game improvements, but he is the solo drive behind making substantial changes and additions to the game. In fact, he's gone as far as to say that if he decided to step back from the game, development would end — so there's no succession in sight. Thankfully for Manor Lords fans, that doesn't seem to be happening any time soon.
